His ruling planet is Uranus, and he represents change, adventure and anarchy. The Fool is number 0 in the Tarot, so you could say he is outside of the rules that the rest of us must follow. It is through the Major Arcana that The Fool traverses and the characters that he meets along his way describes his journey from innocence to experience. Here we have the card of The Fool - the first and last card in the Major Arcana. He is also known as the Spirit of Aether and is ruled by the Element of Air. The Fool is the beginning of the cycle of life, initiated into the journey from innocence to experience. When he sets out on his journey, with his knapsack and his little dog to guide him, we do not know what he will face and if he will thrive or perish. If you look at the countenance of The Fool, you can see that he is not afraid, he is not concerned. His gaze is upward and he is free - he does not notice the precipice over which his foot hovers and which threatens to topple him into the abyss and dash his body on the rocks below. This scene is an excellent metaphor for life and its adventures. When we set out on a new enterprise with no knowledge or skills to help us succeed, but with a desire and a need for change and discovery of new possibilities, it is as if the Universe and all it gods are looking out for us. Worry and fear have no place here, indeed they will attract failure to you. The Fool is a true innocent, and having no concept of failure as he has not learnt it from anyone, his attitude of hope and willingness to discover new worlds seems to be enough protection for him as he sets out into the world. The Magician is the Magus of Power and is ruled by Mercury. He represents one's ability to create the impossible, and he is the guide to your ability to find direction and purpose, together with the tools to pull it all together. Mercury is the Messenger of the Gods, and as such, his information is potent, special and needs your serious attention. When the Magician appears in a reading, it is time to understand that you really do have what it takes to make things happen in your life. You know when the pressure is on and you have to do something seemingly impossible - to put it into 'magician' terms, to pull a rabbit out of a hat - you have the power to do this now. The High Priestess is the Priestess of the Silver Star and is ruled by The Moon. She represents deep intuitive states and knowledge, and she sits between the two pillars which are the the doorway to the unconscious. The Moon is seen in most cultures as a feminine symbol - she is unreliable, changeable and given to moods both dark and light. It represents knowledge that is hidden, and which must only be revealed at the right time and in the proper measure. Seeking certain knowledge that should not be sought often ends badly and this is usually because the seeker is out of touch with his intuitive nature, his inner guide. The Moon is also tied in with creating and uncreating, so that what is desired is sought on the waxing moon and what is not wanted is banished on the waning phase. The Moon also represents memory or the Moon Mind, which is tied in to the ancestral memories and legacies. It is therefore also the collective unconscious and the group mind. The High Priestess has an affinity with the Moon, and with Isis, Kuan Yin and Artemis, who represent Intuition, Compassion and Nature respectively. Guardian of what is hidden, she rules the watery world of Intuition, the Unconscious and the Mysteries. When she appears in a reading where the querent has a relationship question, the answer may take some time, patience and understanding to emerge. The High Priestess is an unusual figure in terms of relationship since she is so very self-contained - almost forbidding. She indicates that you have gone beyond the mundane need for romance and flattery that marks the superficial period of attraction and courting. You yearn for something real, deep and life-changing. You sense that there is much more passion and meaning that can be experienced in a true love relationship than you have yet experienced, and you long for a true Soul connection that will fill up all the dark places with light and joy, and flood the wellspring within that has become depleted and almost parched. Known also as Priestess of the Silver Star and Unity Directing Consciousness, The High Priestess is ruled by The Moon, and representing intuition, healing, walking the inner path and independence. It is significant to me that this card has turned up today, since the High Priestess is ruled by The Moon, and the Moon is at its closest orbit to the Earth, and being a Full Moon, is known as a perigree-syzygy. It should be especially significant to those Cancerians who are reading this, since this is your ruling planet. This card brings inner confidence in ones intuition, the ability to focus on one's own truth and follow the line of that truth to its natural outcome, without being sidetracked and distracted by mundane concerns. Of course, life goes on and the rent has to be paid and the dinner cooked, but these things are incidental to your true focus and purpose. When you are able to channel The High Priestess, you are following the path of your life's meaning and have access to altered states of consciousness - extra-sensory perception, intuition, shamanistic journeys, empathy and healing.
