Four of Cups

Four of Cups

The Four of Cups is also known as the Lord of Blended Pleasure and is aligned with the Moon in Cancer. It represents emotional fullness, satiation and boredom. The Moon is at home in Cancer, and so there is a feeling of comfort and emotional security that you seek to the exclusion of all else. And yet after a while, all that emotional stability becomes predictable and at some level you know you want to escape. Fours are foundational numbers and bring an early completion to the energy of the Suit, in this case, emotional energy. When the foundations are laid, often there is a hiatus, or a feeling of completion and not knowing what to do next. This then leads to a solidification and a sense that something needs to shift in order for progress to be made. There is an ebb and flow of the emotions, so one moment there is an abundance of emotional satisfaction and the next there is a feeling of ennui and weariness as if this is not what you want at all, yet you don't know what you do want. The only thing to do is to ride it out, focus on the things that are blessings in your life and wait for the energy to rise again. Examine where you feel emotionally stifled and decide to move your focus to appreciation rather than lack. This card can be a reminder that love is a gift and should never be taken for granted, lest it disappear and leave us wanting what we already had and didn't recognise as such. So pay attention...

Four of Cups

This card is the Lord of Blended Pleasure and is aligned with Moon in Cancer. It represents emotional uncertainty,  self-protection and boredom. The Four of Cups brings the Element of Water to the foundational energy of the Four, which means a stagnation of this energy and a block in the feelings, intuition and creativity. The Moon is the subconscious drive that direct our lives beyond our awareness, and in Cancer it has a tendency to cling to what is known and certain. There is a feeling of safety, since Moon is Cancer's ruler and the Moon is comfortable there, but there is a lack of spark and enthusiasm and also a feeling of protecting one's heart from risking itself due to past hurts. There is boredom, dissatisfaction but an unwillingness to take affirmative action to change the situation, almost as if you can not bear to risk more disappointment, even though you don't know for sure that a change will be worse. Sometimes this card appears when we have had a surfeit of emotional satisfaction, and the energy needs something different - it is like having too much of a good thing. Like a good meal or a good wine,  enjoying love in moderation is important too, so we don't become jaded by our experiences and cease our appreciation of the gifts that life has to bestow. Sometimes you miss what is right there in front of you, what you already have gained in this modern race towards accruing more and more of what ultimately has no real meaning - collecting things as proof of one's own value, while losing...
Four of Cups

Four of Cups

Known also as The Lord of Blended Pleasure, the Four of Cups is aligned with Moon in Cancer and represents a wealth of emotion, tenderness and love. Moon is at home in Cancer, being its ruler, and so the emotional energies embodied in this card flow freely, if somewhat overwhelmingly so. A time when your depth of feeling can surprise and enrich your life, you may also be subject to being carried away by your emotions now, or of becoming dependent on the love and devotion of one individual, to the detriment of yourself and others. There is a tendency to be somewhat clingy and emotionally uncertain now, and by this very uncertainty you may drive away or even alienate people you wish to have a good relationship with. There may be an underlying feeling of boredom and the love nature may become out of balance as you try to cling to what you have. Four is a foundational number, and the fluid Cups/Water Element may stagnate in the stable and solid Four. What is needed, is a new creative approach and a flushing out of negative emotional states to allow the freshness of new and positive emotions to flow. The opportunity with this card is to learn from past emotional mistakes and so avoid repetition and further heartache. If you recognise your emotional patterns from the past and use some foresight when you realise you are perhaps heading down that same old road, then you can save yourself some time and pain by making a different choice in each new instant. This card advises you to enjoy the...
Five of Cups

Five of Cups

The Five of Cups is also referred to as the Lord of Loss in Pleasure, and is aligned with Mars in Scorpio. It represents disappointment in areas of the heart, longing and misunderstandings in relationships. Mars is energy and willpower, and in Scorpio this is greatly amplified to the point of being obsessive. Where common opinion is to let go and take a breather, Mars and Scorpio both refuse to give up and so being unable to let things lie that perhaps haven't turned out so well, like a dog with a bone one is determined to worry and fret and knaw away at situations and relationships that are best left alone, at least for a while. There is a loss of emotional equilibrium here, and what was once anticipated and eagerly sought has now lost some of it sparkle and shine. There is a realisation that what one has been looking towards and desiring is not all that it appears to be - all that glitters is not gold. In love matters (to which the Cups so often refer) here are perhaps feelings of disappointment and betrayal, and this usually occurs because during the early stages of infatuation and attraction in relationships, we are often unwilling to see anything that doesn't fit our fantasy of a perfect love and happily ever after. And yet it is by going through this stage in any relationship, where we wipe away the illusion from our eyes that is of our own creation (and is just a reflection of our Self) that we can learn and appreciate the gold in the other...

Five of Cups

The Five of Cups is known also as the Lord of Loss in Pleasure and is aligned astrologically with Mars in Scorpio. It represents bitterness, setbacks and regrets. The Five of Cups brings feelings of sadness over past decisions during events that did not end well. There is a realisation that you have not been true to your own heart and now the price is being paid. A sense of lost opportunities that has resulted from a failure to act on your part. The action is generally based in some emotion that is not being dealt with, but rather hidden or not acknowledged for fear of the pain if would cause, either to yourself or others. The result unfortunately, is having to face the pain anyway, perhaps in a different guise, but face it you must. Sometimes this card means love that you have withheld, to your detriment. It does not seem so at the time, and yet with hindsight you see what it has cost you. There is a conflict of emotions at work that revolve around denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and finally acceptance of the reality of the situation. There is a saying "You don't know what you've got till it's gone" and similarly this card can point to a situation where you have taken someone or something for granted and the situation has now moved on so that it seems unlikely to make amends. There is huge potential for personal growth delivered with this card - in the realisation that you cannot always have what you think you want, by clinging to the past you hold...
Five of Cups

Five of Cups

Known also as the Lord of Loss in Pleasure, and aligned with Mars in Scorpio, the Five of Cups represents unfulfilled desires, past regrets and unforeseen disturbances. Mars is Fire and rules assertiveness and challenges, and placed in the watery Scorpio the result is that the fires of your enthusiasm are dampened, and fears of betrayal and not having all the facts creates an atmosphere of uncertainty and suspicion. Actions created out of this situation cause pain and suffering, and yet it is mostly unwarranted. There is a feeling of sadness and loss over seeing a situation more clearly than you wanted to. The wool has been removed from your eyes and now you are facing the truth of the moment, which is what you have been shielding from yourself and refusing to look at. Often this card will appear when a friend or love interest has let you down in some way, but this letting down comes as a result of putting that person on a pedestal, so that when you realise they are only human after all, you see it as a betrayal of your faith and love. One thing is for certain with this Five - a valuable learning is available if you wish to search for it and use it. The seed is contained in this situation to save it, and to build a strong foundation of mutual regard and trust, however it requires that you cease to pursue perfection - usually in others, but sometimes in yourself - as perfection does not exist. But if you can take people as they are, with all...
