King of Cups

King of Cups

The King of Cups is known also as the Prince of the Chariot of the Waters and represents mastery of the emotional realm. This King is charismatic and powerful, with an appreciation of the feminine for which he provides an appreciative foil. His fluid nature makes him elusive especially where the emotions are concerned, and yet his ability to fathom the depths of his and others' emotional natures makes him enigmatic and irresistible. He is in touch with his intuitive side, which means that he has an uncanny knack of knowing what will work and who to trust with important decisions. He is a lateral thinker and will lead with his gut when tricky or conflicting matters need to be sorted out. When he is not in his right nature, he can be deceptive, tricky and elusive, and he will not be pinned down by conservative rules and morals, although he has a compassionate nature and will go in to bat for the underdog if his better nature is appealed to. On an abstract level, the King of Cups represents spiritual matters, the healing arts and cultural endeavours - those concepts which transcend the mundane reality and relate to the finer things of life - love, joy, art, philosophy. You see the King represents that part of us - and this applies to male and female alike - that sees the higher plane, the deeper questions that are asked, He is always holding out for and expecting the best in people and circumstances. His vision is of the heart and soul, and he demands that we rise to a...

King of Cups

The King of Cups is also known as the Prince of the Chariot of the Waters and represents mastery of the emotional realm. This King is deeply connected to his feelings and his creativity - it can be said of this King that still waters run deep. In a reading where multiple cards are drawn, the Court Cards will often refer to a person with whom you are connected or will soon come in contact with. Because the readings on this page are for a single card, I prefer to read them as if the characteristics embodied in the persona of the Court Card are something that needs to be developed in the querent. And so, as this is the 'highest' of the Courts, it refers to someone with a very well developed emotional side, something that comes more easily to those of the water signs or those who have strong water influences in their charts. This is often the mark of an Empath - a person that knows what others are feeling without having to be told. And with the King,  it is also the ability not just to feel. but to transform emotions in self and others by the path of awareness. When you can put yourself in another's shoes, especially those who are in opposition to ourselves or our beliefs, it truly allows for a different response than the normal one you are used to. It is a different way of looking at others, and through that, of looking at your own life. This is the power that the King of Cups bestows if you will let...
Ace of Wands

Ace of Wands

The Ace of Wands is also called the Root of the Powers of Fire and represents transformation, new beginnings, travel and messages from afar. It quickens the pace of your life and brings exciting possibilities and new ideas of creativity. There is a sense of restlessness and a need for change that may manifest as itchy feet and a desire to get moving, to travel or to change jobs. You are aware now that new things are possible - just what those new things are though, are not always apparent just yet. Obstacles that have previously prevented you from moving forward can now be blasted away - the energy delivered by this card is second only to The Sun, and that's a lot of power. It is important to channel this power into doing something that has meaning and heart for you since if you allow this into your life it can act like a power generator and your passion and enthusiasm will keep this fire burning bright for many months to come. New projects and associations are in the air and you are gifted with many new and exciting ideas and possibilities. This may inspire you to study new skills as they will be needed for your future success. The Aces are the most potent of all the Minor Arcana cards, and it really is an opportunity to take the power inherent in this Ace and make a bang! out of it, now is not the time to be idle or stall or procrastinate. This energy is powerful, yes, but the phase will pass and you don't want...
Two of Wands

Two of Wands

Known also as the Lord of Dominion, and aligned with Mars in Aries, the Two of Pentacles represents mastering a situation and approaching life with a pioneering spirit. Mars gives this reading energy and a willingness to find new ways to find solutions to problems, and as it is in its domicile Aries, it is a natural exuberance, confidence and energy that attracts fortunate outcomes. This card also delivers an ability to create new solutions, where before there was only staleness, sameness and a lack of enthusiasm to act. If you have felt stuck and uninspired, then that will soon change as you find a new verve and inspiration to move positively forward. You may have felt confined or stilted in moving forward in your life, but now you have the green light to go ahead and create a new phase with exciting possibilities. Even with all the energy delivered by Mars in Aries, there is also a call to harmony and balance to avoid conflict. Two is the number of balancing the opposites, if one side or the other is favoured then conflict arises. It is important to give both sides an airing as they are both equally valid. Balancing resources may be required now, since it is possible you will experience a feast and a famine with your finances in a short period of time. There is also the possibility of a partnership or collaboration and in fact this card can indicate a letter or message received that clears up some questions regarding contracts or agreements, and can lead to striking out on a new path in life....
Three of Wands

Three of Wands

The Three of Wands is the Lord of Established Strength and represents vision, confidence in self and integrity. Sun in Aries is aligned with this card, and this brings enterprise, drive and energy. The three wands represent spirit, creativity and action combining and working together to unleash positive results and fruitful rewards. Enthusiasm and optimism are highlighted and are important qualities to keep you on this path you have created and to see the outcomes that you are hoping for. The Three is an card of initial success, which means there is still work to do, and a lot of it.  The Wands refer to creativity and passion, the qualities of Fire - you need to keep the spark alight while you are waiting to see what will come in from your work. The need for a risk in the past was what started the actions that result in this card - without the risk then nothing changes. But the willingness to take the risk was strong - but risk doesn't have to be foolish. Calculated risks are taken by wiser heads, and that is what is indicated here. And so this card comes into your reading to tell you that the risk that you took will pay off and you now need to wait to see the fruits of your labour, so some patience and trust is also required. Your world is about to expand even more, and so travel and contact with other lands or cultures is highlighted now. There is an emphasis on the past and a history of working hard towards what you want, perhaps...
Three of Wands

Three of Wands

The Three of Wands is also called the Lord of Established Strength and is aligned with Sun in Aries. It represents the pioneering spirit, and the realisation of the first stages of your most important goals and enterprise. The Sun is the Center, the Ego and the Life Force and when placed in Aries gives confidence, strength and initiative.  Although a lack of patience is often a challenge with this placement, trust in a positive result is necessary and requires the ability to wait and act only when the time is right. And so when the Three of Wands turns up for you it brings confidence, persistent strength and success built on faith in oneself. The imagery of the Three of Wands often shows a man or woman gazing out onto a harbour scanning the horizon. It is often referred to as the card where one's ships come in. Having cast your hopes and resources out into the world, with no idea of whether those ships will float or indeed return with their hulls filled with gold, still you sent them out and must now wait with patience and also a sense of trust and faith in the outcome. A lovely metaphor indeed, and this card tells you that we often have to take a risk, strike out into the unknown, and not be afraid. Nothing was ever won or gained by playing it safe, and yet this card also brings with it a sense of right timing, knowing when to cast your lot out there in order to reap the most benefits. It is certainly a card of...
